Face the Facts

In between looking for a job, working on my portfolio and wrecking shit with my Dirty Burbank playmates, I decided to pick up 1984 for the fourth time in my life. I have never been able to read past the first hundred pages due to the fact that every time I attempt to, I just end up becoming too depressed to do anything with my life. I would read it on the train to work and once my shift would start, I could hardly will myself to do my job when I felt so worthless. Every new fact I learn about the dynamics of the society in Oceania that parallels current situations I get this feeling in the pit of my stomach that tells me I'd rather not think about those things.
But upon moving back to Burbank, I noticed that I own too many books I haven't actually finished reading. So I made a vow to myself that I wouldn't buy another book until I've read everything in my room at least once. The only part I really fear is when I realize all that's left is Atlas Shrugged and the James Joyce compilation. As far as taking on George Orwell, I'm just going to have to face it, the world is a shitty, fucked up place where masses of people basically want to be controlled by an intangible entity to the point where they don't make any decisions for themselves. C'est la vie.

Last night at Casey's place, discussion of trippy animated films from the 70s sparked a series of curious clicking until we ended up watching Heavy Traffic, an animated movie of the same writer/director of Wizards. It was as fucked up and weird as I thought it would be, and it didn't disappoint. The entire movie is up on youtube if you're interested in checking out parts from it, either way, here's the trailer, and the first part of the movie is a related video.
